Dive into the world of glazes!
Learn to glaze with dip glazes and glaze your pieces in the colors of your choice.
In our two-hour "Basics of Glazing" course, you'll learn the fundamentals of glazing – clearly explained and with great attention to detail.
The course is perfect for beginners – you don’t need any prior knowledge.
Bring your own raw-fired pieces (approximately 3-6 pieces per person) so you can practice on your own work. If you don't have your own pieces, we'll be happy to provide you with something to glaze—just let us know at least one week in advance. If the clay isn't ours, please check beforehand whether it's fireable at 1230 degrees Celsius.
We start with a theoretical introduction
- What is a glaze – and what is actually in it?
- Firing temperatures: What does low firing vs. high firing mean?
- Clay & Glaze – an Interplay: Differences between Stoneware and Earthenware
- Why we first burn raw materials – and what happens
Then we move on to practice
- We will show you three techniques of glaze application: dipping, pouring & brushing
- You will learn how to cleanly retouch and prepare glazed pieces
- We talk about typical mistakes when glazing – and how to recognize and understand glaze problems after firing
Ideal for anyone who wants to try glazing for the first time or refresh their practice.
Be inspired, experiment freely – and take home not only glazed pieces, but also new knowledge and the joy of ceramics.
Included in the price: glazes as well as firing of 5-6 pieces (small to medium size) approx. 2 Kilos. Everything above this can be fired within studio fees.
After the glazing course you can use all of our glazes in our open studio to bring your ceramic adventure to the next level!
We look forward to seeing you.
