Throwing on the wheel for beginners:
In our two beginner courses, you can get to know the pottery wheel. Either in the shorter 3-session version or in the more detailed 5-session option – whichever way you want to start!
Option 1: Learn the Basics – 3 Sessions
Learn the basic techniques for working on the pottery wheel, from a lump of clay to a finished glazed mug, bowl, or plate. This course is perfect for beginners trying the wheel for the first time. Together, you’ll learn the fundamentals of pottery, create your first creative accents, and dive into the exciting world of ceramics.
The course is structured as follows:
Day 1: Clay preparation and first throwing on the wheel.
Day 2: Trimming the pieces and shaping the foot of the thrown vessels.
Day 3: Glazing the dried and fired pieces.
The glazing session usually takes place 2–3 weeks after the first two course days. The sessions build on each other – attendance at all three is required to achieve a result.
You can pick up your finished pieces about three weeks after the glazing session.

Option 2: Deep Dive – 5 Sessions
Throwing on the wheel, centering, creating small or larger vessels, surface design, and careful glazing: together we develop and practice techniques over 5 weeks to realize your personal form ideas for vessels, as well as for objects, reliefs, or figures. You will get to know clay as a living material and glaze your works.
If you miss a session, no problem! All missed course hours can be made up for free in the rami Co-Making (unsupervised studio) during opening hours, provided you have basic skills (attendance at least 2 sessions). This is also possible after the course has ended. You will receive 3 free studio hours on top with your course booking – the studio cards will be handed to you by the instructors during the course. Material and firing costs are not included in these hours.
The first 1.5 kg of clay is included in the course price; after that, firing costs for participants are €15 per kilo.
