Mon, 9.2 18:00 – 21:00 & Mon, 23.2 18:00-21:00
Experience how clay can be compacted into a dense, water-repellent and naturally glossy surface without any glaze.
In this two-part course, you'll learn how to achieve a dense and pleasantly smooth surface on clay, even without glaze. We'll work with simple forms, polishing them by hand and firing them in between. In the second session, we'll treat the pieces with a traditional, natural "secret recipe"—a technique that creates warm, calming colors and a silky sheen. Optionally, you can also try our secret natural mix for an even deeper surface. The result is minimalist, functional objects with a clear, tactile presence.
In the end, you will have mastered two natural surface techniques and take home 1-2 functional, dense, glossy pieces - all without glazing.
1. Unit 9.2. 18:00-21:00
You will learn how to polish leather-hard surfaces to a high gloss using simple tools – stones, spoons or wooden molds.
We compare the smoothness, play of light and feel of the different approaches and discuss how you can best prepare your mold for the first firing.
2nd session, February 23rd, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
In the second part, we'll refine the bisque-fired pieces with a traditional milk sealant. Optionally, you can further densify your pieces with linseed oil or wax (ganosis) to create a velvety depth. Finally, we'll discuss care, durability, and the subtle color changes that these natural coatings produce.
Result
You take home 1-2 functional pieces – dense, water-resistant and with a vibrant, hand-polished surface that requires no glaze.
You can either bring 1-2 of your own pieces (Lederhart) or we can provide pieces for you to work on. Please indicate in your booking whether you will be bringing your own pieces.
