In our new semester course, you will learn step by step over 16 weeks about the diversity of ceramic techniques – from the basics on the potter's wheel to independent projects.
The curriculum includes:
- The basics of throwing on the wheel and hand-building techniques

Trimming, surface design, and glazing

Developing and realizing your own projects

Discovering your personal ceramic style

Getting to know the pottery wheel, clay types, glazes, and tools

Hand-building methods such as pinching, coiling, and slab building
You will also explore more advanced techniques such as:

Off-the-hump throwing

Working with added plates or attachments
- Making vessels with well-fitting lids

Course structure
Weeks 1–8
Introduction to the studio, materials (different clay bodies and glazes), and basic techniques for wheel throwing and hand-building.
Weeks 9–12
Deepening the core techniques while creating more specific objects such as jugs, vases, plates, and other vessels, along with a deeper understanding of surface decoration possibilities.
Weeks 13–16
Individual projects based on your interests, for example lidded containers, goblets, developing small series, or working with different clay bodies.
The semester courses can be booked individually and do not have to be combined.
Included
- Clay (4kg) including bisque and glaze firing, glazes and basic materials for the course units. After the first 3 kilos, firing costs amount to €15.00/kg for finished pieces.
- Use of studio equipment

You don't need to bring anything. Clothes that can get dusty are sufficient.
Aprons are provided and clay is easy to wash out.
About the course instructor
Our competent course instructors will guide you with experience in free modeling, teach you the basics of hand building techniques and support you in implementing your own creative ideas.
